Protostar is a new, independent games developer based in Brisbane, Australia. It was co-founded in 2014 by two former Halfbrick veterans, Dean Loades (Programming) and Matt Knights (Design/Art). Combined, they have over 15 years of game development experience on console and mobile. The pair set up shop in one of their homes with the simple goal of creating fun game-play experiences.
As a small team they have the flexibility to try new and interesting game ideas. By using the Unity game engine they are able to rapidly prototype the ideas they come up with and can focus on the elements that make a game fun and interesting.
In November 2014, Protostar released their first game, Checkpoint Champion. It has over 1 million downloads so far and also received a 5 STAR review on TouchArcade.
Hot on the heels of Checkpoint Champion, the pair released their followup, Sling Kong, on August 6th, 2015.
Founded in 2001, Halfbrick has been on the forefront of the Australian game development industry for many years.
From humble beginnings developing licensed titles for platforms such as GBA, DS and PSP, we have expanded our portfolio with a range of hugely successful, independently released games on multiple platforms.
With the success of Fruit Ninja on iPhone and iPad, Halfbrick has catapulted to become one of the most well known indie developers in the world, proving that a little dev down under has the world class skills needed to make a big splash on the global market.
