The EX1 - rapid 3D printing of circuit boards
The EX¹ makes printing circuits as quick and easy as printing a photo - allowing you to print on the material of your choice.
Now based in New York City - Cartesion Co. is from Brisbane.
Cartesian Co. was founded in 2009 by Ariel, Isabella, John and Nick. Back then we were making PCB's by hand and just couldn't believe that personal fabrication had come so far but we were still making circuits the same way our parents did. So we set out to find a better way... but quickly realised that if a better solution existed we would already be using it. So we started experimenting with completely new ways to make circuits and came up with the process the EX¹ uses.
Although we all do a bit of everything we all have a core role in the company. In addition to being our chief visionary Ariel is in charge of the printers electronics. John is responsible for the mechanicial aspects of the printer, Nick is our chemistry guru and Bella is head of software development and is also in charge of finances.
In addition to the four founders there are a two other members of the company that we wouldn't be here without. As well as being a great mentor and experienced entrepreneur Chris is in charge of logistics/production. Nicole is in charge of communications and generally keeping things running smoothly when issues arise.
We tried all the conventional methods like milling, iron-on transfers and photo-resist but we found that they all took too long, didn't give good results or were just ill suited. We even considered automating the acid etching process but the more we tried the more we realised that if a simple solution existed it would already be in use. So we stopped trying to replicate others' methods and started inventing.
