Mine Energy Solutions (MES) - replacing diesel with natural gas at twice the energy density of conventional CNG.
MES is a joint venture between Simes Darby and the Queensland technology company Intelligas.
Intelligas has developed and patented a number of technologies to do, among other things, greatly speed up the time to refill CNG cylinders, retrofit engines, and also automated refuelling using robots and a cartridge based system. The Intelligas solution also works with highway trucks.
High density compressed natural gas [HDCNG™] provides mine sites a simple yet robust alternative to diesel, while avoiding the space claims of CNG and the complexity of LNG cryogenic storage and handling.
A range of mine vehicles including trucks, dozers, wheeled loaders and shovels can be fitted with the HDCNG system. This advanced engine system features sequential gas injection with individual cylinder combustion monitoring and control.
HDCNG™ is stored at pressures up to 350bar; enabling up to 12 hours of continuous operation depending on the drive cycle of the converted machine. Gas substitution can be adjusted to optimise refuelling frequency across a range of operating conditions and the autonomous refuelling system delivers an average refuelling cycle of less than 5 minutes per vehicle.
The HDCNG™ solution produces far fewer particulates and emissions than diesel and together with our advanced engine management system achieves world-class diesel substitution.
